Overview

Paint Tin Disposal explained — in plain English.

What it is

Collection and responsible disposal of old paint tins — emulsion, gloss, undercoat, primer, varnish and similar — from homes, garages, sheds and commercial properties.

Who it's for

Households clearing out the garage or shed, landlords resetting between tenants, decorators with end-of-job leftovers, and executors clearing a parent's home.

When you need it

During a garage or shed clearance, after a redecoration, before a house sale, or any time the back of the garage has filled up with old tins.

Why professional

Liquid paint can't go in the household bin and most council recycling centres only take small amounts (and not always wet paint). Pouring paint down the drain pollutes water courses and is illegal. A licensed carrier disposes of it the right way.

If you leave it

What it costs to put this off.

  • Old paint tins rust through and leak in the garage — paint on the floor is a far bigger job than the tins were.
  • Pouring paint down the sink or drain is illegal and can carry fines — it ends up in the water system.
  • Paint left in a hot garage or shed is a fire risk, especially solvent-based gloss and white spirit.

Common mistakes

The traps to avoid.

  • Binning wet paint with the household waste — refuse crews will often reject the bin and you're left with the problem.
  • Driving multiple tins to the council recycling centre, only to find they cap the quantity per visit or refuse liquid paint.
  • Hiring an unlicensed 'man with a van' for hazardous-ish waste — if it ends up fly-tipped the householder can be fined.

Our process

How a typical paint tin disposal runs.

Same process every job — from your first call to the final tidy-up.

  1. 01

    Free site assessment

We visit (or review your photos) and, once we've seen the job in person, give you a clear, written, fixed-price quote — no hourly clock, no surprise disposal fees. Once it's in writing, the price won't change.

  2. 02

    Tell us what you've got

Rough number of tins and types (emulsion, gloss, varnish). A photo helps. We confirm price before we set off.

  3. 03

    Safe load-out

Tins lifted carefully, kept upright in the van and separated from general waste.

  4. 04

    Licensed disposal

Paint taken to a facility that handles it correctly under the right waste regulations — waste transfer note available on request.

  5. 05

    Final tidy & sign-off

Doors locked, keys returned, property left tidy. Where a property is being resold or re-let we can arrange cleaners to come in. SEPA waste transfer note available on request.

In detail

Everything that falls under paint tin disposal.

Pricing

Paint tin disposal is quoted on the number and type of tins. From £45 (minimum uplift £45) for a small batch. Larger volumes — for example a decorator's end-of-job clear-out — quoted on the call. Prices are a guide only — final quote confirmed on site or by phone.

What we take

Emulsion, gloss, undercoat, primer, masonry paint, varnish, wood stain and similar household and trade tins. We'll also take associated items often found in the same corner — white spirit, brush cleaner, small motor oil bottles and similar — under the same job. For commercial volumes or industrial chemicals, tell us when you call so we can quote correctly.

Why not the household bin

Wet paint isn't accepted in domestic refuse — refuse crews will often reject the whole bin. Council recycling centres typically cap quantity and only accept fully dried tins or small amounts of liquid. A licensed carrier handles any volume and disposes of it the right way.
