Overview

Removals explained — in plain English.

What it is

Local removals: loading, transporting and unloading furniture and household belongings between properties across Ayrshire and the Clyde coast, with the option to clear and responsibly dispose of everything that isn't going with you on the same visit.

Who it's for

Tenants moving between lets, first-time buyers and downsizers, families moving a parent into smaller accommodation or care, landlords moving furniture between properties, and executors moving keepsakes out of a property before it's cleared and sold.

When you need it

Around a tenancy end date, a completion date, a downsizing move or a probate handover. Most moves we handle are within Ayrshire or a short run to Glasgow and the surrounding area.

Why professional

A move and a clearance are usually the same job split across two invoices. Roughly a third of what's in an average home doesn't survive the move — it gets left in the garage, the loft or the back garden. Doing both with one crew means one date, one price and an empty property at the end of it.

If you leave it

What it costs to put this off.

  • Handover dates don't move. Anything still in the property when the keys change hands usually comes off the deposit or delays completion.
  • Leaving the 'we'll deal with it later' pile behind means a second trip back to an empty house, often after the utilities have been switched off.
  • Furniture stored outdoors or in a garage between moves takes damp damage quickly — a usable sofa becomes waste in a matter of weeks.

Common mistakes

The traps to avoid.

  • Booking a removal firm for the move and then discovering nobody will take the old mattress, the shed contents or the broken wardrobe.
  • Hiring an unlicensed van to take away the leftovers — if that waste is fly-tipped, the householder is the one who gets fined.
  • Underestimating the load and paying for a second run, or trying to move a three-bed's worth of furniture in a car and a trailer over a weekend.

Our process

How a typical removals runs.

Same process every job — from your first call to the final tidy-up.

  1. 01

    Free site assessment

We visit (or review your photos) and, once we've seen the job in person, give you a clear, written, fixed-price quote — no hourly clock, no surprise disposal fees. Once it's in writing, the price won't change.

  2. 02

    Walk-through or photos

We look at what's moving, what's staying and what's being cleared, then confirm access at both addresses — floor, stairwell, parking. That's what the fixed written quote is based on.

  3. 03

    Load and transport

Furniture blanket-wrapped and strapped, floors and door frames protected, flat-pack dismantled where it won't come out in one piece. We do the lifting at both ends.

  4. 04

    Clear what's not going

Anything you're leaving behind is separated for reuse, recycling or licensed disposal on the same visit, and the property is left tidy.

  5. 05

    Final tidy & sign-off

Doors locked, keys returned, property left tidy. Where a property is being resold or re-let we can arrange cleaners to come in. SEPA waste transfer note available on request.

Careful with your belongings

Blankets, straps and trolleys as standard. Floors, stair edges and door frames protected before anything comes through.

In detail

Everything that falls under removals.

What kind of removals we do

We're a clearance company that moves furniture, not a national removals franchise — and that shapes what we're good at. Small and mid-sized local moves are our bread and butter: a one or two-bedroom flat, a room's worth of belongings, a downsizer going from a family home into a bungalow or sheltered housing, a landlord shifting furniture between two lets. We also handle part loads, where only some of the contents are travelling and the rest is being cleared. What we don't offer is packing services, crated antiques transport, storage facilities or long-distance overnight relocations. If your move needs those, a dedicated removals firm is the honest answer, and we'll say so on the call.

Pricing

Removals are quoted per job rather than by the hour, because the hour a job takes depends on things you shouldn't be paying for — traffic on the A78, a communal door with no buzzer, a parking bay that's occupied. We price on the volume that's moving, the distance between the two addresses and the access at each end. Where part of the job is clearance rather than a move, that side follows our standard pricing: minimum uplift £45, £150 quarter van, £250 half van and £495 for a full 3.5t van load. Prices are a guide only — the final quote is confirmed on site or by phone, and once it's in writing it doesn't change.

Access at both ends

Most of the difficulty in a move is the first and last ten metres. Tenement stairwells, top-floor flats without a lift, narrow Victorian hallways and shared drives are all normal work for us across Largs, Ayr, Kilmarnock, Irvine and the coastal towns — as long as we know about them before the day. Tell us the floor, the stair turns, the door widths and where the van can sit at both addresses. If a wardrobe or a bed frame won't come out in one piece, we'll dismantle it in situ and reassemble it at the other end where that's practical.

The things nobody wants to take with them

Every move leaves a residue: the mattress that isn't going in the new bedroom, the garage shelving, the shed full of half-used tins, the loft boxes that haven't been opened in a decade. Because we're a licensed waste carrier as well as a van and crew, that residue is handled in the same booking. We sort it on site, set aside anything reusable, keep upholstered furniture separate in line with SEPA's POPs guidance, and route the rest for recycling or licensed disposal. Nothing leaves until you've seen it, and if you'd rather set something aside for family we'll flag it rather than load it.

Probate, downsizing and sensitive moves

A lot of the moves we do sit alongside a bereavement or a move into care, and they need a different pace. In those jobs we typically move the keepsakes and furniture the family is keeping first, then clear the rest of the property once everyone has had a chance to walk through it. Valuables, paperwork and anything of obvious sentimental value are set aside and handed over rather than binned. We work discreetly, with unmarked handling where neighbours are a concern, and we don't rush families through a walk-through.

Areas we cover

Based in Largs and covering the whole of Ayrshire and the Clyde coast: Largs, Skelmorlie, Wemyss Bay, Fairlie, West Kilbride, Millport and Arran; Ardrossan, Saltcoats, Stevenston, Kilwinning, Irvine, Dreghorn and Springside; Dalry, Beith and Kilbirnie; Kilmarnock, Crosshouse, Kilmaurs and Stewarton; and Ayr, Prestwick, Troon and Dundonald. Moves to and from Glasgow and the surrounding area are regular work — tell us both postcodes and we'll quote.

POPs-Compliant, Responsible Disposal

We follow SEPA's POPs guidance for upholstered furniture and recycle responsibly at licensed facilities. We're a SEPA registered waste carrier (WCR/R/1137430), with a Waste Transfer Note available on request.

What size of move do you take on?+

Small and mid-sized local moves — flats, one and two-bedroom properties, single rooms, part loads and downsizing moves. We don't offer packing, storage or long-distance overnight relocations.

How much does a removal cost?+

Removals are quoted per job based on how much is moving, the distance and the access at both ends. Clearance work alongside the move follows our standard pricing from £45, with a full 3.5t van load at £495. Prices are a guide only — final quote confirmed on site or by phone.

Can you clear what I'm not taking on the same day?+

Yes — that's the main reason people book us rather than a standard removal firm. We move what's going and clear what isn't in the same visit.

Do you dismantle and reassemble furniture?+

We dismantle beds, wardrobes and flat-pack in situ where they won't come out in one piece, and reassemble at the other end where that's practical. Tell us on the call so we allow for it.

Are my belongings insured while you're moving them?+

Yes — we carry £5,000,000 public liability and £10,000 goods-in-transit cover. Certificates available on request.

Do you move outside Ayrshire?+

Yes — runs to Glasgow and the surrounding area are regular work. Give us both postcodes and we'll quote.

How much notice do you need?+

Fast booking, and same-day uplift is often possible for smaller jobs. For a dated move around a handover, call as early as you can so we can hold the slot.
