Overview

Single Item Removal explained — in plain English.

What it is

A one-off uplift of a single household item — sofa, mattress, fridge, washing machine, wardrobe, table or similar. We carry from any room, dismantle if needed, and dispose under our SEPA-registered waste-carrier paperwork.

Who it's for

Anyone replacing a single piece of furniture or appliance, tenants moving out, landlords resetting a let, and households whose council uplift can't fit them in for weeks.

When you need it

When new furniture or a new appliance is being delivered, when an old item won't fit through the door for self-disposal, or when council uplift is full for the next few weeks.

Why professional

A licensed single-item uplift is fast, fixed-price and traceable. DIY tip-runs need the right vehicle, a permit and an SEPA waste carrier licence — and unlicensed 'man with a van' uplifts often end up fly-tipped, which the householder can be fined for.

If you leave it

What it costs to put this off.

  • An unwanted sofa or mattress left in the hallway or garden gets damp fast — what could have been recycled becomes paid landfill.
  • Council bulky uplift waiting lists in Ayrshire often run several weeks and refuse anything without a fire label or above a kerbside collection.
  • Hiring an unlicensed 'man with a van' from social media is a real risk — fly-tipped items can be traced back to the householder.

Common mistakes

The traps to avoid.

  • Trying to manhandle a heavy item down a tenement stair alone — back injuries from this are common.
  • Assuming the new-furniture retailer's 'free uplift' is genuinely free — many charge per item, and only collect inside the delivery slot.
  • Booking a full skip for one item — you pay for a permit, the hire and the disposal when a single-item uplift is cheaper and quicker.

Our process

How a typical single item removal runs.

Same process every job — from your first call to the final tidy-up.

  1. 01

    Free site assessment

We visit (or review your photos) and, once we've seen the job in person, give you a clear, written, fixed-price quote — no hourly clock, no surprise disposal fees. Once it's in writing, the price won't change.

  2. 02

    Confirm item & price

Send a photo via WhatsApp or describe the item by phone. Fixed price quoted before we set off — no on-arrival surprises.

  3. 03

    Booked-in collection slot

Fast booking — we'll agree a day that suits and the crew will give you a heads-up call when they're on the way.

  4. 04

    Carry-out & dispose

We carry from any room, any floor, and dismantle in situ if needed. Item routed for recycling or licensed disposal.

  5. 05

    Final tidy & sign-off

Doors locked, keys returned, property left tidy. Where a property is being resold or re-let we can arrange cleaners to come in. SEPA waste transfer note available on request.

Benefits

What you actually get
when you book SK.

Fixed price from £45

Minimum uplift £45. Single sofa, mattress, fridge or appliance — quoted clearly before we arrive.

Same-day uplift possible

Most weeks we can fit a single item in quickly. Urgent slots usually available — call to check the day's diary.

Carry from any room

Top-floor flat, basement, back garden, garage — we lift, you don't.

Licensed disposal paperwork

SEPA-registered carrier. Waste transfer note available on request — useful for landlords and house sales.

Add a second item and save

Adding a second or third item to the same visit works out cheaper than booking separate trips.

No fire-label refusals

We take upholstered furniture with or without a fire label and dispose of it responsibly as a licensed carrier.

In detail

Everything that falls under single item removal.

What counts as a single item

Sofas, armchairs, mattresses, beds, wardrobes, chests of drawers, dining tables, fridges, freezers, washing machines, tumble dryers, cookers, TVs and similar single household pieces. If you have two or three items, we'll often quote them on the same visit for less than separate bookings.

Guide prices

Single item / sofa from £45. Mattress from £45. Wardrobe (standalone) from £45. Fridge from £50. Washing machine from £45. Cooker from £45. Minimum uplift £45. Prices are a guide only — final quote confirmed on site or by phone.

When to book a clearance instead

If you've got more than a van's worth of items, a full or part clearance usually works out cheaper per item than several single-item uplifts. We'll tell you honestly which option suits when we quote.

POPs-Compliant, Responsible Disposal

We follow SEPA's POPs guidance for upholstered furniture and recycle responsibly at licensed facilities. We're a SEPA registered waste carrier (WCR/R/1137430), with a Waste Transfer Note available on request.
